In the 1st quarter of 2021
The number of bankruptcy, insolvency, and recovery of companies, registered in the 1st instance courts of the District of Madeira, decreased quarterly and year-on-year
According to the information provided by the Directorate-General for Justice Policy (DGPJ), the number of opened cases in the District of Madeira related to bankruptcy, insolvency, and company recovery proceedings dropped from 55 in the 4th quarter of 2020 to 43 cases in the 1st quarter of 2021 (-21.8%). Compared to the previous quarter (53 cases), the decline was 18.9%.
In the 1st quarter of 2021, 59 closed cases were counted, 51 of which ended in bankruptcy or insolvency. The number of bankruptcy/insolvencies increased from the previous quarter (43) and the same quarter of the last year (40).
Regarding the type of legal person involved in the bankruptcies/insolvencies, the share of natural persons (70.6%) was higher than the share of legal persons. In fact, of the 51 decreed bankruptcies/insolvencies in this quarter, 36 were of natural persons and 15 of legal persons.
