In the 3^rd quarter of 2025

Number of bankruptcy, insolvency and enterprise recovery incoming cases registered in the first-instance courts of the Madeira District decreased quarter-on-quarter and increased year-on-year

According to information provided by the Directorate-General for Justice Policy (DGPJ), the number of incoming cases filed in the Madeira District related to bankruptcy, insolvency and enterprise recovery decreased from 58 in the 2^nd quarter of 2025 to 44 in the 3^rd quarter of 2025 (-24.1%).

Compared with the corresponding quarter of the previous year (37 cases), an increase of 18.9% was recorded.

In the 3^rd quarter of 2025, a total of 41 cases were closed (+17.1% compared to the 3^rd quarter of 2024), of which 36 (87.8%) resulted in declared bankruptcy or insolvency. The number of bankruptcies/insolvencies was lower than that recorded in the previous quarter (45), but higher than in the corresponding quarter of the previous year (33), representing changes of -20.0% and +9.1%, respectively.

With regard to the type of person involved in the declared bankruptcies/insolvencies, the share of natural persons exceeded that of legal persons, accounting for 80.6% of the total. Of the 36 bankruptcies/insolvencies declared during the quarter, 29 involved natural persons and 7 involved legal persons.
