In the 2^nd quarter of 2025
Number of bankruptcy, insolvency and enterprise recovery incoming cases registered in the first-instance courts of the Madeira District increased both quarter-on-quarter and year-on-year

According to information provided by the Directorate-General for Justice Policy (DGPJ), the number of incoming cases filed in the Madeira District related to bankruptcy, insolvency and enterprise recovery increased from 42 in the 1^st quarter of 2025 to 58 in the 2^nd quarter of 2025 (+38.1%). When compared with the same quarter of the previous year (43 cases), a year-on-year increase of 34.9% was observed.

In the 2^nd quarter of 2025, a total of 48 cases were concluded (+20.0% compared with the 2^nd quarter of 2024), 45 of which (93.8%) ended with a declared bankruptcy or insolvency. The number of declared bankruptcies/insolvencies was higher than that recorded in both the previous quarter (37) and the same quarter of the previous year (36), corresponding to increases of 21.6% and 25.0%, respectively.

With regard to the type of persons involved in the declared bankruptcies/insolvencies, natural persons accounted for a higher proportion than legal persons, representing 80.0% of the total. Of the 45 declared bankruptcies/insolvencies in this quarter, 36 concerned natural persons and 9 involved legal persons.
