Natural decrease of population increased over the same period of 2020

Preliminary data of demographic statistics show that in the first quarter of 2021, the Autonomous Region of Madeira registered a negative natural change of -411 persons, since the number of live births in this period (387) was smaller than the number of deaths (798). In the same period of 2020, the natural change had also been negative (-266 persons, representing the difference between 445 live births and 711 deaths).

The number of live births (387) in the 1^st quarter 2011 is a minimum of the available time series (since 1995).

In the first three months of 2021, no deaths under 1 year were counted. Still, 1 dead foetus was registered.

In the period of reference, 102 marriages took place in the registry offices of the Region, down by -49 (-32.5%) from the same period of 2020.
