DREM marks the International Women’s Day with a special publication that answers 10 questions

On the occasion of International Women's Day, the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM) has released a special edition of the publication Demography in Figures: Infographics Inspired by 10 Questions.

This publication aims to provide insights into the demographic trends of the Autonomous Region of Madeira through infographics complemented by concise texts.

The information is derived from various sources, including the Demographic Statistics of Statistics Portugal (INE/DREM, 1981–2023), the time series of the Population and Housing Census (Censuses 1890–2021), the Labour Force Survey (INE/DREM, 1983–2024), the Ministry of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security’s Lists of Personnel (1995–2022), and the State Organisation Information System of the Directorate-General for Administration and Public Employment (2024).

In this special Women’s Day edition, the publication seeks to answer the following questions:

    1. How many women live in the Region?
    2. How many women of foreign nationality live in the Region?
    3. Are women getting married later nowadays? And are they having children later?
    4. Are women living longer nowadays?
    5. How many centenarian women live in the Region?
    6. Are there still women who cannot read or write?
    7. Are women more educated than men?
    8. Do women have higher incomes than men?
    9. How many women are employed in the Region?
    10. How many women are employed in the public administration?
