DREM marks the World Population Day with a special publication that answers 10 questions

On the occasion of the World Population Day, the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM) has released a special edition of the publication Demography in Figures: Infographics Inspired by 10 Questions.

This publication aims to address various questions concerning the demographic evolution of the Autonomous Region of Madeira. The answers are based on a range of sources, including the Demographic Statistics of Statistics Portugal (INE/DREM, 1981–2024), the Projections of Resident Population (INE/DREM, 2018-2080), the Survey of Residents on Tourism in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (DREM, 2023), and the Population and Housing Census (Censuses, 1900-2021).

In this special World Population Day edition, the publication seeks to answer the following questions:

        1. How many persons live in the Region?
        2. Where is the population concentrated?
        3. How old is the population?
        4. Will the population continue to age?
        5. Has the population in active age increased in recent decades?
        6. How often do residents travel abroad?
        7. How many persons commute outside their municipality of residence to work or study?
        8. How does the population commute their daily movements?
        9. How long do persons spend commuting each day?
        10. What is the religious affiliation of the population?
