In November 2025
Number of deaths increased by 13.8% compared with the same month of the previous year, while the number of live births rose by 29.0%
In November 2025, 223 deaths were recorded in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ARM), exceeding the figure observed in November 2024 (an increase of 27 deaths; +13.8%). From January to November, a total of 2 606 deaths were registered, 263 more than in the corresponding period of the previous year (+11.2%).
The assessment of “excess mortality”, which compares the number of deaths recorded in the reference month (223) with the average number observed in the same month over the period 2016 to 2019 (207 deaths on average), indicates an excess mortality of 8.0%. This reflects the fact that, across those years, the number of deaths was almost always lower than the value recorded in November 2025.
In November 2025, no deaths under 1 year of age nor stillbirths were recorded.
Also in November 2025, 178 live births were registered, representing a 29.0% increase compared with November 2024 (40 more live births). The total number of live births registered in the first eleven months of 2025 (1 585) was 2.2% lower than that observed in the same period of 2024 (36 fewer live births).
The difference between live births and deaths resulted in a negative natural balance of 45 persons in November 2025, less adverse than in the same month of the previous year, when the figure stood at -58. In the first eleven months of 2025, the cumulative natural balance amounted to -1 021, representing a deterioration compared with the same period of 2024 (-722).
In the eleventh month of 2025, 90 marriages were celebrated, corresponding to an increase of 4.7% compared with November 2024 (4 more marriages). From January to November, a total of 1 179 marriages were registered, 49 more (+4.3%) than in the corresponding period of the previous year.
