In 2023

Significant decline in COVID-19 vaccine inoculations was a major contributor to the reduction of the total number of inoculations administered in the Region

According to data provided by the Regional Directorate of Health, a total of 121,859 inoculations were administered in the Region in 2023, representing a decrease of 37.9% compared to 2022 (196,314).

Within the framework of the Regional Immunisation Programme (RIP), 53,888 inoculations were administered, reflecting a 3.5% reduction compared to 2022 (55,822).

Outside this Programme, 67,971 inoculations were recorded, marking a 51.6% decrease from the previous year. This decline was largely attributable to an 81.6% reduction in COVID-19 vaccine inoculations and a 10.6% reduction in the number of VAG Tetravalent flu vaccines (standard dose) administered. Notably, in 2023, 15,942 COVID-19 vaccine inoculations were administered (compared to 86,501 in 2022), and 39,458 VAG Tetravalent flu vaccines (standard dose) were given (44,136 in 2022). Regarding other vaccines administered outside the PRV in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, there was a 27.6% increase (an additional 2,716 inoculations).
