The Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM) released the results of the data collection from the Primary Health Care Units (UCSP) in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ARM), for the period 2021–2023. The data collection was carried out with the Regional Health Service of the ARM (SESARAM), using a data collection application provided by Statistics Portugal (INE). The information collected refers to the seven Health Centres and their respective 47 functional units that comprise the Health Centre Grouping of the ARM (ACES), created in 2016.
In 2023, the staff serving in the UCSPs of the ARM consisted of 1 888 professionals, of whom 252 were physicians, 658 nurses, 56 senior health technicians, and 80 diagnostic and therapeutic technicians.
During that year, 298 126 medical appointments were recorded (-2.9% compared to 2022), 75.0% of which were “General and Family Medicine / General Clinic – Adult Health” (223 468 appointments; -2.7%) and 10.6% were “Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health” (31 540 appointments; -6.4%).
