12-month average rate of change in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) decreased to 3.5%
In July 2025, the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ARM) recorded an average rate of change of the Consumer Price Index (CPI)over the last 12 months of 3.5%, representing a decrease of 0.1 percentage points (pp) compared with the previous month.
The underlying inflation indicator — the indicator excluding unprocessed food and energy products — stood at 3.6%, 0.2 pp lower than in the previous June.
The prices of goods rose by 2.3%, while services recorded a more marked increase of 5.1%.
The largest positive changes were observed in the expenditure classes “Restaurants and hotels” (+10.1%), “Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels” (+4.8%), and “Alcoholic beverages and tobacco” (+4.1%). Conversely, the class “Clothing and footwear” was the only one to register a negative change, of -0.3%.
At the national level, the average CPI change stood at 2.3% in July, identical to that recorded in the previous month.
In year-on-year terms, i.e., comparing July 2025 with the same month of 2024, the rate of change in prices in the ARM was 3.2%, 0.2 pp higher than in the previous month. Nationally, the year-on-year CPI change was 2.6%, 0.2 pp above that of June.
On a monthly basis, in July 2025, the CPI registered a change of -0.2% (-0.1% in the previous month). In the country as a whole, the monthly change stood at -0.4%, representing a decrease of 0.5 pp compared with the +0.1% recorded in the preceding month.
In July 2025, the average housing rent per square metre of floor area in the Region increased by 0.5% compared with the previous month and by 7.0% in year-on-year terms (0.3% and 7.1% in the previous month, respectively).
