In November  2015

Madeira’s hotel industry hastened growth, with the main variables showing increases above national average

Initial estimates for November 2015 show increases in the tourism indicators with positive year-on-year rates of change in overnight stays (+11.8%), total revenue (+19.9%) and lodging revenue (+20.9%).

At the country level, the rates of change stood at +8.4% in nights spent, +11.9% in total revenue and +13.1% in revenue from accommodation.

The number of overnight stays in Madeira in the month of reference was 448,000. The total revenue and the revenue from accommodation stood at 21.2 and 13.1 million euros, respectively.

Looking at the data broken down by market, it should be highlighted that for the reference month the year-on-year change rates in nights spent by the Portuguese and foreign tourists were +19.1% and +11.2%, respectively.

In the first eleven months of 2015, the overnight stays increased by 5.6% when compared to the same period of 2014, while the growth in total revenue (+9.6%) and lodging revenue (+12.0%) was more pronounced.

The net bed occupancy rate in the reference month reached 55.0%, up by 6.0 percentage points from November 2014 and remaining as the highest between the Portuguese NUTS2 regions.

The average income per room (RevPAR) recorded a year-on-year change rate of +21.3%, increasing to € 33.16.
