In the 1st quarter of 2026
Decline in the number of sessions contrasted with increases in spectators and box office revenue at cinemas in the Autonomous Region of Madeira
According to provisional data released by the Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual (ICA), in the first three months of 2026, a total of 1 902 cinema sessions were recorded in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ARM), representing a decrease of 37.9% compared to the same period of 2025.
The number of spectators stood at 42 954, an increase of 8.6% year-on-year, while box office revenue grew to approximately 292.1 thousand euros, reflecting an increase of 21.7% compared to the same period of the previous year. January stood out as the main driver of this performance, recording a 20.7% increase in spectators and accounting for approximately half of the quarterly total.
