Natural population decrease was more pronounced than in the same period of the previous year

Preliminary data of demographic statistics show that, in the first half of 2021, the Autonomous Region of Madeira registered a negative natural population change of -604 persons, resulting from a number of live births (817) lower than the number of deaths (1,421). In the same period of 2020, the natural change had also been negative although less pronounced (-484 persons) representing the difference between 884 live births and 1,368 deaths.

In the first six months of 2021, 2 deaths under 1 year and 3 dead foetuses were registered.

In the period of reference, a total of 278 marriages took place, up by 74 (+36.3%) from the same period of 2020.
