Between January and September 2020
Number of building permits and completed buildings increased in the Autonomous Region of Madeira compared to the same period of 2019
Between January and September of 2020, 339 buildings were licensed, up by 18.5% when compared with the same period of 2019. Breaking down by month and compared the same months of 2019, in January, February, June, July, August and September there was an increase in the number of building permits, and the opposite in March, April and May. In the 3rd quarter 2020, 118 buildings were licensed, a 32.6% rise year-on-year.
65.8% of the licenses of construction and demolition works were for new constructions (223), 79.8% of which were destined for family housing (178). From these constructions resulted the licensing of 332 dwellings, up by 33.3% from first nine months of 2019.
In the reference period, the number of completed buildings went up by 11.9% to a total of 226. 58.4% of the completed buildings were new constructions for family housing (132). Compared to the 3rd quarter 2020, 68 buildings were completed, down by 19.0% year-on-year.
The number of completed dwellings in new constructions for family housing stood at 249, increasing by 42.3% over the same period of 2019 (175).
DREM releases time series on Construction and Housing Statistics
In order to provide to the users an easier access to statistical information in the area of Construction and Housing, the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM) makes available a new time series, to be updated annually, which compiles all the main indicators regarding Construction and Housing. This time series may be downloaded from the official statistics website of DREM, by selecting “General information” in the area “Economic” – “Constructing and Housing”.
