DREM releases today on its website statistical information for the years 2013 and 2014 about the Official Clinics of the Autonomous Region of Madeira
According to the information provided by SESARAM (Health Service of the Autonomous Region of Madeira) - based for the first time on administrative data - in 2013 and 2014, there were 15 official clinics and 34 extensions in the Autonomous Region of Madeira. Eight of the official clinics offered basic emergency services (2 had an inpatient system), while 15 provided domestic support services.
At the end of 2014, the official clinics staff stood at 1,531, of which 176 were physicians and 508 nurses. Compared to 2013, the staff dropped by 4.2% (-67 persons employed), a decline partly explained by the drop in the nursing staff (-4.5%).

In both years, 72% of the appointments were classified under “ Family and General Medicine”, 13% under “newborn, child and adolescent” and 6% under “women’s health”. Of the total appointments , 41% were first appointments.
128,020 patients were attended in the emergency services in 2014, up by 4.6% from 2013 (122,346). In both years, approximately 91% of the patients were sent home or to an outpatient appointment in the official clinic and 9% were routed to the hospital.
In 2014, 7,590 complementary diagnostics procedures were carried out in the official clinics of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, down by 196 from 2013 (7,786 tests). Of that total 72% were electrocardiograms, 26% radiology exams and 2% ultrasound exams.
