The two main causes of death in the Autonomous Region of Madeira were the diseases of the circulatory system and the malignant neoplasms; number of dentists increased and the number of nurses decreased

Provisional data concerning the causes of death in 2013 show that the two main causes of death in that year were the diseases of the circulatory system, accounting for 25.9% of deaths registered in Madeira, and the malignant neoplasms, with 21.9% (26.5% and 22.8% in 2012, respectively).

In the deaths caused by diseases of the circulatory system, cerebrovascular diseases were the most common, accounting for 102 deaths (8.9% of the total).

Malignant neoplasms of the larynx, trachea, bronchus and lung represented 4.2% of the total number of deaths.

In 2013, 175 dentist medical doctors were counted by the guild (168 in 2012), up 4.2% year-on-year. In that same year, the number of nurses declined by 2.5%, dropping from 2,147 in 2012 to 2,093 in 2013.
