In 2014

Parturitions to mothers resident in the Autonomous Region of Madeira dropped by 5.2%; number of physicians increased by 8.1% while nurses decreased by 0.8%

In 2014 (provisional data) there were 1,723 parturitions to mothers resident in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, representing a 5.2% decrease compared to 2013 (- 94 births). 19 of these parturitions resulted from twin pregnancies. In that year, 57.8% of parturitions were to mothers aged between 26 and 35 years.
The municipalities which registered a higher proportion of parturitions were Funchal (40.0%), followed by Santa Cruz (21.5%) and Câmara de Lobos (14.9%).

The number of physicians registered in the Guild at December 31st of 2014 was 841, up by 8.1% when compared to the corresponding day of 2013 (778 physicians at 31/12/2013). Of that total 38.9% (327) were non-specialists. The number of physicians per 1,000 inhabitants maintained an upward trend, rising from 3.0 in 2013 to 3.3 in 2014.

In 2014, 2,077 nurses were registered in the Guild (down by 0.8% from 2013), which corresponded to 8.0 nurses per 1,000 habitants (the same as in the previous year).

In 2014, the number of pharmacies, mobile medicine depots and points of sale for medicinal products not subject to a medical prescription remained unchanged from 2013.

The data made available now will be included in the publication, "Health Statistics of the Autonomous Region of Madeira - 2014," which will be released in December 2015.
