In 2015
Number of physicians increased by 8.7%
The number of physicians registered in the Guild in 2015 was 914, up by 8.7% when compared to 2014 (841). More than half of the total (54.5%) were women.
74.3% of the physicians were located in Funchal and 12.0% in Santa Cruz.
67.6% (618) were specialists, 20.4% of Family and General medicine, 9.4% of Internal medicine and 5.8% of General surgery.
There were number 3.6 physicians per 1,000 inhabitants in 2015. This ratio was higher in Funchal (6.4) and lower in the municipalities of Calheta, Ponta de Sol and Santana (0.6 physicians per 1,000 inhabitants).
The data made available now will be included in the publication "Health Statistics of the Autonomous Region of Madeira - 2015," which will be released in December 2016.
