In the first four months of 2021
Commercialisation of banana decreased by 8.3% year-on-year
According to the data provided by the Regional Directorate of Agriculture (DRA), in the first four months of 2021, the commercialisation of locally produced banana stood at 4,717.5 tonnes, down by 428.9 tonnes from the same period of 2020. Of that total, 79.3% was dispatched, mainly to Mainland Portugal (77,9% in the first quadrimester of 2020).
The 8.3% decline in banana commercialisation was shared by all classes: “Extra” (-2.4%), Class I (-26.7%) and Class II (-22.6%). Banana of the “Extra “class represented 78.8% of the overall total (74.0% in the corresponding quadrimester of 2020).
April was the month of the 1st quadrimester of 2021 with the highest volume of commercialised banana (1,499.0 tonnes) and the only one in which there was a year-on-year growth (+11.1%). February had the lowest volume of commercialised banana (885.4 tonnes), while January was the month in which the highest drop was recorded (-17.8%).
