According to data provided by the Regional Directorate of Agriculture (DRA), in 2024, 24.5 thousand tonnes of bananas produced in Madeira were commercialised, a reduction of 745.4 tonnes compared to 2023, that is, -3.0 %. Of this total banana, 84.4% was shipped, mainly to mainland Portugal (85.7% in 2023), with the remaining 15.6% sold on the regional market (14.3% in the previous year).
September was the month in 2024 in which the highest volume of banana sales was recorded (3.1 thousand tonnes) and December was the month in which the lowest volume of this product was recorded (1.2 thousand tonnes).
