Commercialisation of “Madeira” wine decreased by 4.8% in volume and by 1.7% in value
According to data provided by the Madeira Wine, Embroidery and Handicraft Institute, P.I., the commercialisation of “Madeira” wine in 2016 stood at 3.2 million litres, generating first sale receipts of 17.7 million euros. Compared to 2015, the quantities sold decreased by 4.8% and the sales value fell by 1.7%.
Exports to Canada recorded increases of 59.8% in the quantities sold and 99.1% in first sale receipts. The exports to the United States increased by 21.5% in volume and by 16.6% in receipts. The main external market – France – revealed negative change rates (-16.8% in the quantities sold and -22.6% in value). Sales to mainland Portugal increased in volume (+4.5%) but decreased in value (-10.6%), while the sales made in the Autonomous Region of Madeira showed increases in both volume (+4.4%) and value (+4.1%).
71.3% of the commercialized wine was sold in bottles at the average price of €6.76 per litre, while the remaining 28.7% consisted of bulk wine sold at €2.65 per litre.
Commercialisation of embroideries, tapestries and furnishing articles decreased in 2016
In 2016, the commercialisation of embroideries, tapestries and furnishing articles generated 809.9 thousand euros of first sale receipts, decreasing by 15.1% compared to 2015. In 2016, more than half of the sales were directed to the national market, with the United States and the United Kingdom standing at the top of the list of importing countries of this type of goods.
