In the 3rd quarter 2016

Commercialisation of “Madeira” Wine increased by 5.1% in volume and decreased 9.2% in value

According to data provided by the Madeira Wine, Embroidery and Handicraft Institute, P.I., the commercialisation of “Madeira” wine topped 830,000 litres, generating first sale receipts of 4.3 million euros. When compared with the corresponding period of 2015, the quantities sold increased by 5.1% while the sales value dropped by 9.2%.

In the January to September period of 2016, the year-on-year change rate of sales value was positive (+1.7%) albeit the sales volume decreased (-3.3%).

It should be highlighted that in first nine months of 2016, exports to the Netherlands recorded year-on-year increases of 37.6% in volume and 61.5% in first sale receipts. The main external market – France –  presented negative change rates (-16.3% in the quantities sold and -22.9% in value). Sales in Mainland Portugal market dropped by 7.5% in volume and by 16.1% in value.
