In the 2nd quarter 2016

Commercialisation of “Madeira” Wine decreased by 3.1% in volume and increased by 21.6% in value compared to the year-ago quarter

According to data provided by the Madeira Wine, Embroidery and Handicraft Institute, P.I., the commercialisation of “Madeira” wine stood at 716,998 litres, generating first sale receipts of 4.5 million euros. When compared with the corresponding period of 2015, the quantities sold decreased by 3.1% and the sales value increased by 21.6%.

For the January to June period, the sales volume decreased by 7.8% and the receipts rose by 8.5% year-on-year.

It should be highlighted that in the first six months of 2016 there was a decrease in the exports for the main external market, France (-22.8% in volume and -25.9% in value), while the “Madeira” wine commercialised in the Region increased by 40.4% in volume and by 46.4% in value. Exports to the United States also rose by 9.3% in volume and by 31.9% in receipts.
