DREM releases the “International Trade Statistics-2016” publication

DREM releases today the annual publication “International Trade Statistics” (only available in Portuguese) which includes the provisional data for the year of 2016. The publication tables also include the final results for 2014 and 2015.

Summary of the main indicators

In 2016, the trade balance of goods of the Autonomous Region of Madeira with foreign countries recorded a deficit of 34.0 million Euros. In the previous year, the trade deficit had stood at 21.1 million Euros.

From 2015 to 2016, both exports and imports decreased by 13.7% and 1.7%, respectively. Madeira had a foreign trade surplus with Third Countries (52.6 million Euros) and a deficit with the INTRA-EU countries (-86.5 million Euros).

Exports for INTRA-EU countries increased from 26.7 million Euros in 2015 to 29.5 million Euros in 2016, while imports from those countries decreased from 117.1 million Euros in 2015 to 116.0 million Euros in 2016.

There was a decrease in the trade with Third Countries, since exports dwindled from 83.9 in 2015 to 66.0 million Euros in 2016, while in the same order, imports from those countries declined from 14.6 to 13.4 million Euros.
