In the first nine months of 2024
Trade Balance of the Region with foreign countries showed a positive surplus of 66.5 million euros
According to preliminary data for the first nine months of 2024, the trade balance of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ARM) with foreign markets recorded a surplus of 66.5 million euros, higher than the 40.0 million euros recorded during the same period of the previous year. This corresponds to a coverage rate of imports by exports of 132.3%, an increase compared to the 119.0% registered in the first nine months of 2023.
During the reference period, the total exports from companies headquartered in the Autonomous Region of Madeira reached 272.6 million euros, an increase of 8.7% compared to the first nine months of 2023. In contrast, imports totalled approximately 206.1 million euros, a decrease of 2.2% compared to the same period last year. From January to September 2024, the majority of exported goods were destined for third countries (55.9% of the total), and the predominance of imports from the European Union remained significant, accounting for 82.2% of total imports.
