In the 3rd quarter of 2017
Unemployment rate was estimated at 9.3%
The Labour Force Survey results for the 3rd quarter of 2017 indicate that the unemployment rate for Madeira was estimated at 9.3%. This value is down by 1.7 percentage points (p.p.) from the previous quarter and by 3.9 p.p. from same quarter of 2016.
The unemployment rate in Portugal stood at 8.5% (8.8% in the previous quarter).
It should be noted that although the regional unemployment rate remains above the national average, the value of the reference quarter is a minimum of the current series (which starts in the 1st quarter of 2011), and it stands below of the 10% threshold for the first time.
There were 119.3 thousand employed persons, which corresponds to year-on-year and a quarterly increase of +3.5% and +1.0%, respectively (+4.0 thousand persons compared to the same quarter of 2016; +1.1 thousand persons compared to the previous quarter).
In the period of reference, the estimate of the unemployed population in the Autonomous Region of Madeira was 12.2 thousand persons, recording a quarterly decrease of 16.5% (-2.4 thousand persons) and a year-on-year decrease of 30.3% (-5.3 thousand persons).
