81.3% of private households of the Autonomous Region of Madeira had internet connection at home

According to the results of the Survey on the Usage of Information and Communication Technologies in Households for 2017, 81.3% of private households in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (RAM), with at least one individual aged between 16 and 74, had access to the Internet at home (80.9% through broadband), an increase of 2.5 percentage points (p.p.) compared to 2016.

The proportion of individuals in that age group that ever used the internet stood at 79.1%. The use of Internet to make purchases or orders (electronic commerce) was carried out by 45.3% of those individuals, and 26.7% did so in the 3 months prior to the interview (up by 3.4 p.p. from 2016).

Among the activities carried out by Internet users in the 3 months prior to the interview, "Participate in social networks" (77.2%), "Send or receive e-mail" (76.1%) and "Finding information about products or services"(75.7%) were the most common.

The equipments most frequently referred by users to access the internet were the mobile phone or smartphone (77.6%) and the portable computer (46.8%).

In the last 12 months prior to the interview, 53.8% of those who used the internet reported using this system to contact public administration bodies.
