Main fuels released for consumption decreased by 16.6% over the previous year
In 2020, the main fuels released for consumption (diesel oil and gasoline) in the Autonomous Region of Madeira stood at 124.8 million litres, decreasing by 16.6% compared to 2019. This is the lowest value since the first year of the time series (which starts in 2008). 90.3 million litres of the main fuel - diesel oil - were released for consumption in the reference period, a 15.7% decline over the previous year. In the case of gasolines, the demand for unleaded 95 gasoline decreased by 22.8% while the demand for unleaded 98 dropped by 6.4%. The sales of these fuels were 25.3 and 9.1 million litres, respectively.
Concerning gas, the release for consumption of propane and butane in 2020 stood at 10.2 (-53.7% over the previous year) and 6.0 thousand tonnes (up by 9.4%), respectively. 24.9 thousand tonnes of natural gas were released for consumption in the reference year, a 2.5% increase when compared with 2019.
Taking in consideration the fourth quarter of 2020, the main fuels released for consumption (diesel oil and gasoline) in the Autonomous Region of Madeira totalled 33.8 million litres, decreasing by 9.4% compared to the same period of 2019. 24.4 million litres of the main fuel - diesel oil - were released for consumption between October and December 2020, dropping by 8.9% over the year-ago period. In the case of the gasolines, the demand for unleaded 95 gasoline went down by 14.4%, while the demand for unleaded 98 increased by 0.7%. The sales of these fuels, by the same order, were 6.9 and 2.5 million litres,
Concerning gas, the release for consumption of propane and butane stood at 3.0 and 1.8 thousand tonnes, respectively. 6.9 thousand tonnes of natural gas were released for consumption in the fourth quarter of 2020.
Mean prices in 2020 decreased
In 2020, the mean maximum selling prices of diesel oil stood at €1.154, decreasing by 11.2 cents over the 2019 mean. In the case of the unleaded 95 gasoline, the drop between 2019 and 2020 reached 10.1 cents. The mean price for the reference year was €1.373.
In the 4th quarter of 2020, the mean price for diesel oil was €1.117, lower than price registered in the corresponding quarter of 2019 (€1.268). If compared to the previous quarter, the price of this type of fuel shows an decrease of 1.0 cents.
The mean price for unleaded 95 gasoline was €1.360, down by 12.1 cents compared to the 4th quarter of 2019 and remaining unchanged from the previous quarter.
