In the first half of 2024
Main fuels released for consumption increased by 3.4% compared to the same period last year
According to data provided by the Customs of Funchal, in the first six months of 2024, the main fuels released for consumption (diesel and gasoline) in the Autonomous Region of Madeira reached approximately 80.4 million litres, a 3.4% increase compared to the same period in the previous year (77.7 million litres in the first half of 2023).
In the first half of 2024, 53.6 million litres of diesel were released for consumption, a 0.3% increase compared to the same period last year. For gasoline, the volumes released for consumption for 95 and 98 octane gasoline were around 21.4 and 5.4 million litres, respectively, representing increases of 10.0% and 11.5% over the same period last year.
For propane and butane gas, the release for consumption in the period was around 5.5 and 2.7 thousand tonnes, respectively (+26.2% and -5.9% compared to the same period last year). For natural gas, the volume released for consumption was 9.6 thousand tonnes (+105.6% compared to the same period last year).
In the second quarter of 2024, the release for consumption of main fuels (diesel and gasoline) reached approximately 41.8 million litres, a 4.2% increase compared to the same period last year. In this quarter, the release for consumption of diesel was 27.6 million litres (+0.7% compared to the same quarter in 2023). For gasoline, 95 and 98 octane gasoline saw increases of 12.6% and 8.5%, respectively, compared to the same period last year, with the release for consumption from April to June 2024 at 11.5 and 2.8 million litres, respectively.
Average fuel prices in the second quarter of 2024 increased compared to the same period last year
In the second quarter of 2024, the average price of diesel was 1.351 euros, higher than the same period last year (1.339 euros) but lower than the previous quarter (1.369 euros). For 95 octane gasoline, the average price was 1.652 euros, higher than in the same period last year (1.613 euros) and the first quarter of 2024 (1.584 euros).
