Balance between formed and dissolved corporations was positive (+90)

According to the data provided to Statistics Portugal by the Directorate General of the Policy of Justice, in the 3^rd quarter of 2018, the number of formed corporations headquartered in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (222) was higher than the number of dissolved corporations (132), which resulted in a positive balance between the formation and dissolution of corporations (+90). This balance increased from the previous quarter (+78). Compared to the year-ago quarter, the number of formed corporations went down by 20 while the number of dissolved corporations rose by 21.

The data broken down by economic activity show that the most pronounced positive balance was observed in “Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles” (+26), followed by “Accommodation and food service activities” (+25) and “Real estate activities “(+16). Inversely, negative balances were recorded in “Other service activities” (-6), “Financial and insurance activities” (-5) and “Manufacturing” (-4).

The balance between formed and dissolved corporations in the January to September 2018 period was +328 (800 formed corporations and 472 dissolved).

During the first nine months of the year, the ratio between formed and dissolved corporations stood at 1.69, close to the national value (1.72).
