Balance between formed and dissolved corporations was positive (+381)
According to the data provided to Statistics Portugal by the Directorate General of the Policy of Justice, in 2018, the number of formed corporations headquartered in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (1,057) was higher than the number of dissolved corporations (676), which resulted in a positive balance between the formation and dissolution of corporations (+381). Compared to the previous year, the number of formed corporations went up by 76 while the number of dissolved corporations rose by 101. The number of formed corporations was the highest since 2005.

The data broken down by economic activity show that the most pronounced positive balance was observed in “Accommodation and food service activities” (+107), followed by “Real estate activities“ (+93), “Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles” (+76) and “Consultancy, scientific and technical activities” (+51). Inversely, negative balances were recorded in “Financial and insurance activities” (-15), “Construction” (-12) and “Transportation and storage” (-10).
In 2018, the ratio between formed and dissolved corporations stood at 1.56, below the national average (1.79).
In the 4th quarter 2018, the balance between formed and dissolved corporations was +53 (257 formed corporations and 204 dissolved).
