Balance between formed and dissolved corporations was positive (+134)
According to the data provided to Statistics Portugal by the Directorate General of the Policy of Justice, in the 1st quarter of 2019, the number of formed corporations headquartered in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (343) was higher than the number of dissolved corporations (209), which resulted in a positive balance between the formation and dissolution of corporations (+134). Compared to the year-ago quarter, the number of formed corporations went up by 33 while the number of dissolved corporations rose by 59.

The data broken down by economic activity show that the most pronounced positive balance was observed in “Accommodation and food service activities” (+35), “Human health and social work activities” (+26), “Construction” (+24), “Real estate activities” and “Consultancy, scientific and technical activities” (+20, in both activities). Inversely, a negative balances was recorded in “Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles” (-18), followed by “Financial and insurance activities” (-9) and “Manufacturing” (-3).
During the first three months of the year, the ratio between formed and dissolved corporations stood at 1.64, below national average (3.01).
