[Note: Values revised on 31/03/2021 following the data refreshment of the month of November 2020]

In 2020

Balance between formed and dissolved corporations was positive (+230)

According to the data provided to Statistics Portugal by the Directorate General of the Policy of Justice, in 2020, the number of formed corporations headquartered in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (803) was higher than the number of dissolved corporations (573), which resulted in a positive balance between the formation and dissolution of corporations (+230). Compared to the previous year, the number of formed corporations went down by 256 while the number of dissolved corporations dropped by 51 – which can be explained by the restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic that severely affected the economy, especially in the 2nd quarter 2020.
