In the 3^rd quarter 2020

Balance between formed and dissolved corporations was positive (+103)

According to the data provided to Statistics Portugal by the Directorate General of the Policy of Justice, in the 3^rd quarter of 2020, the number of formed corporations headquartered in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (214) was higher than the number of dissolved corporations (111), which resulted in a positive balance between the formation and dissolution of corporations (+103). Compared to the 2^nd quarter – in which there were restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic that severely affected the economy – there was an increase of 103 formed corporations and 27 dissolved corporations. Compared to the year-ago quarter, the number of formed corporations decreased by 26 while the number of dissolved corporations went up by 5.

The data broken down by economic activity show that the most pronounced positive balance was observed in “Accommodation and food service activities” (+26), in "Consultancy, scientific and technical activities” (+21), in “Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles” (+20) and in “Real estate activities” (+19). Inversely, the only negative balance was recorded in “Manufacturing” (-1).

The balance between formed and dissolved corporations in the January to September 2020 period was +214 (569 formed corporations and 355 dissolved).

In the first nine months of the year, the ratio between formed and dissolved corporations stood at 1.60, below national average (2.67).
