In the first half of 2025
Balance between the number of company incorporations and dissolutions was +666
According to data provided by the Directorate-General for Policy of Justice to Statistics Portugal, in the first half of 2025, the number of company incorporations (840) with headquarters in the Autonomous Region of Madeira was higher than the number of dissolutions (174), resulting in a positive balance of 666 companies (471 in the same period of the previous year). Compared to the same period last year, there were 32 more incorporations and 163 fewer dissolutions.
Breaking down the data by Economic Activity, the most significant positive balances were observed in “Transportation and Storage”(+120), “Accommodation and food services” (+115), “Construction” (+91), “Real estate activities” (+67), “Consulting, scientific, technical, and similar activities” (+65), “Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles” (+52) and “Administrative and support service activities” (+46).
In the first half of 2025, the number of incorporations surpassed dissolutions in all municipalities: Funchal (521 incorporations vs. 122 dissolutions), Santa Cruz (88 vs. 14), Câmara de Lobos (61 vs. 9), Machico (39 vs. 4), Calheta (34 vs. 3), Ponta do Sol (29 vs. 5), Ribeira Brava (22 vs. 5), São Vicente (17 vs. 5), Porto Santo (13 vs. 3) Porto Moniz (8 vs. 2) and Santana (8 vs. 2).
In the first half of the year, the ratio of incorporations to dissolutions in the ARM was 4.83, above than the national ratio of 4.01.
Focusing on the second quarter of 2025, the balance between company incorporations and dissolutions was +328 (407 incorporations vs. 79 dissolutions). In the same period of the previous year, the balance was +225 (385 incorporations vs. 160 dissolutions).
