In 2015
Electricity production decreased by 0.1% compared with the previous year
In 2015, the electricity production, estimated from the data on the distribution of electric energy provided by the Electricity Company of Madeira, decreased by 0.1% compared with the previous year. Looking at the data broken down by source, it should be highlighted that hydropower and wind power production decreased by 30.9% and by 14.3% compared to 2014, respectively. This decline was compensated by the growth in production through other sources, mainly by thermal power (+5.7%), which represented roughly 75.0% of the total production in 2015 (70.8% in the corresponding period of 2014). It should also be mentioned that the production of thermal power based on natural gas represented 18.6% of the total production mix (11.8% in 2014).
The 1.2% year-on-year decrease in the 4th quarter of 2015 contributed to the aforementioned drop in the electricity production of that year.

DREM releases more data about the energy sector for the year 2014
DREM also publishes today on its website data for 2014 compiled by the Directorate-General for Energy and Geology (DGEG) concerning the consumption of electric energy and the number of consumers of electric energy. The energy balance for 2014 is also available now.
