Electricity production increased by 0.3% year-on-year

In the first six months of 2016, the electricity production, estimated from the data on the distribution of electric energy provided by the Electricity Company of Madeira, increased by 0.3% year-on-year. Breaking down the data by source it should be highlighted that the electricity generated by thermal power and photovoltaics decreased by 7.2%, for both sources, compared to the same period of 2015. This decline was compensated by the growth in production through other sources, mainly by hydropower (+66.0%). Thermal power represented 66.1% of the total production in the first half of 2016 (71.5% in the same period of the previous year). It should also be mentioned that despite the year-on-year 34.9% drop, the production of thermal power based on natural gas represented 18.3% of the total production mix.
