Value of performed works by construction enterprises headquartered in the Autonomous Region of Madeira declined by 5.6%
In 2020, the value of performed works by construction enterprises headquartered in the Autonomous Region of Madeira amounted to 485.4 million euros, a 5.6% decrease compared to 2019. Of that amount, 57.4% concerned building works (278.7 million euros) and the remaining 42.6% civil engineering works (206.7 million euros), the former having been the driving force (-14.8%) for the overall decrease, whilst the latter registered an increase (+10.5%).
It should also be noted that new construction was the biggest contributor (weight of 49.3%) to the overall value of the activity of construction enterprises in the Autonomous Region of Madeira.
The construction enterprises with 20 or more employees were responsible for 73.7% of the total value of the performed works, generating 357.5 million euros, a 2.3% decrease compared to 2019. In this group of enterprises, the “civil engineering” works were the most important, representing 187.6 million euros (up by 9.7% from the previous year).
In the smaller enterprises (under 20 employees), the value of performed works topped 127.9 million euros, down by 13.7% from 2019. Works carried out in buildings were responsible for 85.1% of the total value of performed works by this type of enterprise, and they were mainly related (43.1%) with works of new constructions.
