Agricultural output in the Autonomous Region of Madeira rose by 5.0%
The Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira releases today the provisional data for 2016 concerning the Regional Economic Accounts for Agriculture (REGEAA), recently released by Statistics Portugal, allowing the update of the time series available on our website which begins in 1995.
The REGEAA data show that agricultural output in the Autonomous Region of Madeira stood at 114.1 million euros in 2016, growing by 5.0% from 2015 in nominal terms.
In 2016, 86.4% of the total agricultural output came from crop output and 10.0% from animal output. In Portugal the weight of animal output was higher (37.9%), although crop production was also the most important component of agricultural output (57.2%).
In the Autonomous Region of Madeira, the main components of crop production in 2016 (98.6 million euros) were fresh vegetables (30.0 million euros, up by 22.0% from 2015) and tropical fruits (23.9 million euros, up by 19.4% from the year 2015).
Aviculture accounts for almost two thirds (64.8%) of animal output, whose total reached 11.4 million euros.
The intermediate consumption stood at 45.2 million euros, growing by 6.2% from 2015.
The Gross Value Added (GVA) corresponds to the difference between production (at basic prices) and intermediate consumption. In 2016, the GVA reached 68.9 million euros, increasing by 4.3% between 2015 and 2016.
