Value of transacted dwellings in the Autonomous Region of Madeira hit a new record
According to the information provided by Statistics Portugal (INE), in 2020, 3,168 dwellings were traded in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, down by three from 2019, which represents a 0.1% drop over the previous year. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic that was the second highest value since the starting point of the time series - 2009.
From that total, 2,411 were existing dwellings (76.1% of the total) and the remaining 757, new dwellings. Compared to the previous year, the number of traded existing dwellings went down by 3.8% while the new dwellings rose by 14.0%.
The value of transacted dwellings in the reference year was approximately 470.3 million euros, representing a 11.6% increase over the previous year. That value also represents a new maximum of the available time series. The sales value for the new dwellings stood at 141.3 million euros and for existing dwellings at 329.0 million euros, increasing by 27.7% and 5.9%, respectively.
In Portugal, the number of transacted dwellings in 2020 reached 171.8 thousand (a 5.3% decrease compared to the previous year), generating a sales value of 26.2 billion euros (+2.4%).
In the Autonomous Region of Madeira, a total of 926 dwellings were transacted in 4th quarter, up by 8.7% from the year-ago quarter and there was also a 7.2% increase over the previous quarter. The total sales value was 135.5 million euros, which represents a 16.3% growth when compared to the same quarter of the previous year. and a 7.4% increase over the previous quarter.
