Number of offences recorded in the Autonomous Region of Madeira decreased
In 2016, the number of offences recorded by the police forces stood at 6.1 thousand, representing a decrease of 6.1% over the previous year (6.5 thousand).
The most common offences were “against persons” and “against patrimony” (in aggregate represented 73.3% of the total offences), which dropped by 3.9% and by 6.8%, respectively, compared to 2015.
In 2016, the crime rate – the ratio of the number of offences by the resident population (in thousands) – stood at 23.8‰, lower than in 2015 (25.2‰). The highest rates were registered in “crimes against the patrimony” (7.6‰) and in “crimes of assault” (6.8‰).
Regarding the number of public deeds, 4,509 deeds were registered in 2016, up by 6.3% from the previous year (4,243).
