In August 2017
Madeira’s economy maintained a growth trajectory although with a small slowdown
The Regional Indicator of Economic Activity (RIEA) shows the prolongation of a positive trajectory in the economic activity in the month of August, despite a small slowdown compared to the prior month, which reflects a smaller growth of almost all the variables that compose the RIEA. One of the indicators that has been pushing down the RIEA in the last months is the overnight stays in hotel establishments, whose rates of changes have been decreasing.

It should be noted that this indicator is a synthesis instrument whose objective is to facilitate the timely monitoring of the regional economy, in particular as regards to direction and magnitude of fluctuations, and does not present itself as a substitute for other official statistics, namely of annual rate of change of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
