In April 2025
Confidence indicators in Manufacturing Industry, Construction and Public Works, and Services increased, while Trade saw a decline
According to data collected by the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM) through the Qualitative Business Surveys (QBS), in April 2025, confidence indicators increased in the Manufacturing Industry, Construction and Public Works, and Services compared to the previous month, while Trade recorded a decline.
The confidence indicator for the Manufacturing Industry rose in April, following declines in February and March. This upward movement resulted from a positive contribution of opinions regarding the development of overall demand, assessments of finished goods inventories, and production expectations. The balance of expectations concerning selling prices also increased in April, after having fallen in the previous month.
In Construction and Public Works, the confidence indicator increased in April, after stabilising in March and declining in February. This development reflected a positive contribution from employment prospects, although assessments of the order books showed a negative performance. The balance of price expectations over the next three months rose in April, following decreases in the two previous months.
In Trade, the confidence indicator declined in April, after having increased over the three preceding months. This decline resulted from a negative contribution across all components: assessments of business activity prospects, sales volume, and inventory levels. The balance of expectations concerning future price developments increased in both March and April, following a decline in February.
In Services, the confidence indicator rose for the third consecutive month, reversing the downward trend observed over the previous seven months. The indicator’s evolution was driven by a positive contribution from opinions on the recent development of the order book, expectations concerning demand, and assessments of the company's activity. The balance of expectations for service prices increased in April, after having declined in February and stabilised in March.
