DREM releases an "Em Foco" on the results of the 2026 presidential elections in the Autonomous Region of Madeira

The Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM) today makes available, on its website, an "Em Foco" publication dedicated to the results of the presidential elections held in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ARM) in 2026, presenting an integrated analysis of the presidential election results, as well as voter turnout levels and the territorial distribution of the vote. These elections were held over two rounds, since no candidate obtained more than half of the validly cast votes in the first round, resulting in a second round between the two most-voted candidates.

This publication summarises the main results recorded in the two electoral rounds held in 2026, analysing the evolution of voting behaviour, candidate performance and voting patterns by municipality and parish.

In the first round of the presidential elections, held on 18 January, 255 653 voters were registered, of whom 139 084 exercised their right to vote, corresponding to a turnout rate of 54.40% and an abstention rate of 45.60%.

In the second round, held on 8 February, of the 255 653 registered voters, 141 368 took part in the electoral process, corresponding to a turnout rate of 55.30%, with the abstention rate standing at 44.70%.

The main results are highlighted below:

Presidential Elections (1st round) — André Ventura was the most-voted candidate in the Region

  • André Ventura obtained 44 822 votes, corresponding to 32.23% of the total, an increase of 22.57 percentage points (pp) compared with the previous elections (2021).
  • António José Seguro received 30 608 votes (22.01%), making him the second most-voted candidate.
  • Luís Marques Mendes received 19 690 votes, equivalent to 14.16%.
  • João Cotrim de Figueiredo obtained 19 296 votes (13.87%), while Henrique Gouveia e Melo and Catarina Martins received 10 822 votes (7.82%) and 5 119 votes (3.68%), respectively.
  • At the territorial level, André Ventura was the most-voted candidate in all municipalities, recording the highest percentage in the municipality of São Vicente (41.91%) and the lowest in Porto Moniz (28.15%).
  • António José Seguro performed best in Machico (30.30%) and recorded his lowest percentage in Calheta (15.54%).
  • By parish, André Ventura achieved his highest result in Caniçal (46.51%) and his lowest in Ilha (14.00%), while António José Seguro recorded his best result in Achadas da Cruz (42.31%) and his weakest in Ponta do Pargo (9.11%).

Presidential Elections (2nd round) — António José Seguro won in the Region

  • António José Seguro obtained 76 387 votes in the Region, corresponding to 54.03%, an increase of 32.03 pp compared with the first round.
  • André Ventura received 59 600 votes, equivalent to 42.16%, representing an increase of 9.93 pp compared with the first round.
  • Territorially, António José Seguro recorded his highest percentage in the municipality of Machico (57.97%) and his lowest in São Vicente (44.55%).
  • André Ventura performed best in São Vicente (52.13%) and recorded his lowest percentage in Funchal (39.17%).
  • At the parish level, António José Seguro achieved his highest result in Ilha (76.24%), while André Ventura recorded his best result in Estreito da Calheta (56.56%).
