DREM releases, for the first time, the results of the Quarterly Survey on Car Rental Enterprises in the Autonomous Region of Madeira
The Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM) releases today, on the World Statistics Day, information concerning self-drive vehicle rental services in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ARM), based on the provisional results obtained from the Quarterly Survey on Car Rental Enterprises in the ARM, referring to the first quarter of 2025.
Almost 103 thousand contracts were signed in the first quarter of 2025, with the vehicle fleet reaching around 11.1 thousand units
During the first three months of 2025, 102 852 vehicle rental contracts were concluded. Of these, 58.0% involved vehicle pick-up at the airport, while the remaining contracts were made at hotels or at rental enterprises offices.
The rental fleet totalled 11 069 vehicles, the majority of which were passenger cars (95.9%). The remainder consisted of motorcycles (4.0%) and motor caravans (0.1%).
Between January and March 2025, the number of clients using vehicle rental services reached approximately 98.9 thousand. The most representative nationalities were German (21.3% of the total) and Portuguese (20.1%). In third position was Polish (12.6%), followed by French (9.2%) and British (8.0%).
With regard to rental service revenues, a total of 17.1 million euros was recorded. Of this amount, 73.1% corresponded to the basic service (12.5 million euros), while the remaining 26.9% (4.6 million euros) corresponded to other revenues items, namely additional insurance, second driver, GPS, child seat, and airport fee.
