DREM releases the Business Plan, Assessment and Accountability Framework and the Dissemination Calendar for 2026
At a plenary meeting of the Statistical Council (SC) held on 19 December, favourable opinions were issued on the Business Plans of the SC and of the statistical authorities for 2026, including that of the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM).
As in previous years, in 2026 the Business Plan of DREM will take into account statistical production and dissemination activities, both in its capacity as a delegation of Statistics Portugal (INE), assuming the coordination and implementation, in the Region, of national statistical operations, and as a regional statistical authority, strengthening its coordinating role in the production of official statistics in the Region, as well as other activities, notably the publication of statistical outputs, the extension of time series, the preparation of studies and other dissemination products, with the aim of responding to the growing demand for official statistical information on the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ARM).
The objectives and activities planned for 2026 reflect DREM’s commitment and determination to respond efficiently and impartially to the major demands and requirements imposed by the current context on society as a whole, from policy-makers to the general population, who are increasingly seeking high-quality, relevant and up-to-date statistical information on the current economic and social situation.
In 2026, DREM will be involved in 267 activities (eleven more than in 2025), of which 105 will be carried out as a delegation of INE and 152 as a regional statistical authority.
In addition to the planned ongoing activities, other releases may also take place as a result of occasional statistical work.
Alongside the Business Plan, DREM is also releasing its Assessment and Accountability Framework for 2026, which sets out the strategic and operational goals to be achieved during that year.
Simultaneously, the dissemination calendar is also made available, listing all planned releases for 2026 along with the expected date of publication for each one.
On the production side, in 2026, particular emphasis is placed on the launch of new tourism-related surveys (MICE, diving and surfing), the completion of the Mental Health Literacy Survey (carried out in partnership with SESARAM), and the compilation of Sports Statistics (integrating data from the Regional Directorate for Sport into a statistical series). In terms of dissemination, the highlight is the new version of the “RAMStats” smartphone application.
DREM’s dissemination strategy continues to be based on the use of its website as the primary channel for the free provision of official statistical information, through a range of products, including “Em Foco”, which provides statistical analyses of the released results; “Press release” (a summary of the main published data, sent by email to registered users); “Tables”; “Publications”; “Brochures”; and “Time Series”. It should also be noted that there is a goal to increase the number of dashboards, a tool that enables users to interactively visualise data for each area.
Aware of the globalisation process, in which English is the dominant language, DREM also disseminates information in English. Accordingly, “Press release”, “Tables” and “Time Series” will be made available simultaneously in English, not only as a way of making the ARM better known to international users from a statistical perspective, but also as a supporting tool in the relations established by resident entities with organisations in other countries.
Dissemination is a fundamental phase of statistical activity and, ultimately, the one that gives concrete expression and visibility to the full achievement of DREM’s Mission, which consists in the production and dissemination of high-quality official statistical information that meets, with independence and effectiveness, the information needs of a Society that is constantly evolving and increasingly demanding in terms of the relevance, quality and timeliness of that information.
