Commercialisation of “Madeira” wine increased by 4.6% in volume and by 0.5% in value
According to data provided by the Madeira Wine, Embroidery and Handicraft Institute, P.I., the commercialisation of “Madeira” wine in 2018 stood at 3.4 million litres, generating first sale receipts of 19.2 million euros. Compared to 2017, the quantities sold and the sales value increased by 4.6% and by 0.5%, respectively. The sales value of 2018 was the highest ever.
The national market rose by 1.5% in volume and by 4.1% in receipts, fostered by the sales made in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (+6.3% in sales value) which offset the drop registered in the shipments to Mainland Portugal.
In the EU market the highlight goes to France, to where exports recorded an increase of 26.5% in quantities sold and 31.6% in sales value. These results softened the decline in exports to the United Kingdom and Germany.
Exports to China recorded increases of 32.7% in the quantities sold and 47.9% in first sale receipts, while the sales to the United States - the main market outside the EU - decreased by 3.4% in volume and by 8.9% in receipts.
76.1% of the commercialized wine was sold in bottles at the average price of €6.68 per litre, while the remaining consisted of bulk wine sold at €2.66 per litre.

In 2018, the commercialisation of embroideries, tapestries and other artifacts generated 697.2 thousand euros of first sale receipts, decreasing by 8.2% compared to 2017. In 2018, more than half of the sales were directed to the national market, with the United States and Italy standing at the top of the list of importing countries of this type of goods.
