In the 1st quarter of 2026
Region's foreign trade balance with foreign countries recorded a surplus of 30.2 million euros

According to preliminary data for the 1st quarter of 2026, the Autonomous Region of Madeira’s trade balance with foreign countries recorded a surplus of 30.2 million euros, lower than in the year-earlier period (52.3 million euros). This translates into an import coverage ratio by exports of 139.7%, lower than that recorded in the first three months of 2025, which stood at 189.7%.

In the reference period, total exports by enterprises headquartered in the ARM reached 106.3 million euros, having decreased by 3.9% compared to the 1st quarter of 2025, while imports stood at around 76.1 million euros, a figure 30.5% higher than in the same period of the previous year. In the 1st quarter of 2026, slightly more than two-thirds of outgoing goods were destined for third countries (69.5% of the total), while on the imports side, European Union countries continued to predominate (69.4%).

2025 data revised

It should be noted that the 2025 data on the ARM's International Trade have been revised, while retaining provisional status. Final data are expected to be published next August.
