In the 1^st quarter of 2022

Balance between the number of incorporated companies and the number of dissolutions was positive (123)

According to data provided to Statistics Portugal by the Directorate General for Justice Policy, in the 1^st quarter of 2022, the number of company incorporations with head offices in the Autonomous Region of Madeira was higher (414) than the number of dissolutions (291), which resulted in a positive balance of 123 companies. Compared to the year-ago quarter, there were 92 more incorporations and 194 more dissolutions.

The breakdown of the data by economic activity shows that the most pronounced positive balance was in “Consultancy, scientific, technical and activities” (+47), in "Information and communication activities" (+41), in “Real estate activities” (+33), and in “Human health and social work activities” (+14). In turn, the main negative balances were recorded in "Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles" (-13), in “Manufacturing” (-11).

During this period, the number of incorporations was higher than that of dissolutions in 8 municipalities namely Funchal (282 against 207), Santa Cruz (57 against 12), Câmara de Lobos (21 against 6) and São Vicente (7 against 1).

It should be noted that, in the first three months of the year, the ratio between incorporations and dissolutions in the Autonomous Region of Madeira stood at 1.42, lower than the national average (3.06).
