12-month average rate of change in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) stood at 3.7%
In March 2025, in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ARM), the 12-month average rate of change in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) was 3.7%, representing an increase of 0.1 percentage points (pp) compared to the previous month.
The underlying inflation indicator, which excludes unprocessed food and energy products, stood at 4.0%, also reflecting an increase of 0.1 pp compared to the preceding month.
The prices of goods rose by 2.2%, whereas services experienced a more pronounced increase of 5.5%.
The most significant increases were observed in the categories of "Restaurants and Hotels" (9.8%), "Communications" (5.2%), and "Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels" (4.8%). In contrast, "Clothing and Footwear" was the only category to register a negative change (-0.3%).
At the national level, the average rate of change in the CPI was 2.4%, a decrease of 0.1 pp compared to the previous month.
On a year-on-year basis, i.e., comparing March 2025 with March 2024, the rate of price change was 3.5% (1.9% nationally), down by 0.5 pp from the previous month.
On a monthly basis, prices in March 2025 increased by 1.0% (compared to 0.3% in the preceding month). Nationally, the rate of change was 1.4% (-0.1% in the last month).
In March 2025, the average housing rent per square metre of floor area in the Region rose by 0.9% compared to the previous month and by 7.5% compared to the same month of the previous year (0.4% and 7.6%, respectively, in the preceding month).
